My Ringmesh shirt and coif arrived today. Actually, my 2nd shirt arrived. I ordered the first one too small. I also got a 14" x 8" piece of the same maille for sword testing. I want to know how well this stuff resists heavy cutting blows. Here is the obligatory mug shot taken in "the hall of swords." ;D It's super light weight and seems strong. I'm wearing it over a fleece pull-over and fleece watch cap. It just feels like wearing a light jacket. All day wear wouldn't even be noticeable.

Nice! Seems a bit snug on the face opening for a coif though. But that's just me. Otherwise, good buy.

Nice! Seems a bit snug on the face opening for a coif though. But that's just me. Otherwise, good buy. It has a drrawstring and Mike's got it pulled pretty tight. I've played with some smaller pieces of this stuff and aside from being light it flows like water when you move. Couldn't leave and not say, Mike you have a wonderful collection and display. Very Impressive!

Looks good, I love the Ringmesh myself!
As for the face opening being too small, it's not really. He's gotten it snugged up a bit with a lace, but if he was about to fight in it, he would want it that way. I guess he could open it up for costume purposes and such, but it's fine as is. I have a mail hood with the ventail that straps across the face; making it look like a medieval ninja mask.
Excellent protection there! ;D

Yep, I laced the bottom half of the face opening to match some medieval period funeral effigies I've seen. I'm leaning toward threading leather all the way around the face opening to give it some definition and make it a little more rigid, so it will hold it's shape and stay in place better. It's just that the little holes in this maille make it a challenge to thread anything through them.
Cool idea with the wrap-around aventail. I may have to add that to mine. The extra 14" x 8" piece wasn't expensive. Somewhere in the $20 range.
I wore the shirt for 4-5 hours, until bedtime. I actually forgot I was wearing it and pulled off the fleece with the maille in place. Then I remembered it was there. This would be an easy thing to just attach to a pull-over garment, and you'd forget you're wearing it.

I have to say, I prefer Aventails to cinching. I'd love to see what you do with the aventail. Also, another question, could you blacken ringmesh? Or will in not take because it's stainless?

Well shoot, I'm just learning everything today. I'm pretty excited to hear how it fares against a sword though.

I got me some Ring Mesh finally. It's as light as a jacket...maybe a little heavier. It doesn't restrict movement at all. As Mike said, you forget you're wearing it after a few minutes of putting it on. You can wear it under a shirt easily. Not sure why you would....but you CAN! Looks good, though it is very see-thru. With a black or grey shirt underneath it looks great. Makes for a nice costume piece. Now I have to go to the Renn Faire this year in costume I have to say, though I have little actual use for this, I am glad I got it. It is pretty cool. Mike, did you ever do the testing of that piece?

I know you would love it Sean. Just get it! People refer to it as mithril. The D&Der in me thinks of it as Elven Chain (which is made of mithril) I'm such a nerd.

Hey Mike, did you ever get around to whacking that extra piece you had? I'm curious to see how it stood up to real abuse.
