First off, let me say that I DO NOT like anime. However, I took a liking to this sword about a year ago before finding the wonder that is SBG, and still haven't gotten over it... So, does anyone have any experience with this sword? www.trueswords.com/typhoon-swell-anime-samurai-sword-p-3384.htmlI know that it has been discussed here before, but I can't recall that there was a consensus. Basically, if any of you know of something that is really good or really bad about this blade, please let me know. Even a verdict of 'it's ok' is better than nothing, lol. I plan on buying this and reviewing it if no one has any definitive reasons that it's junk, but I'd like still like opinions just in case it's junk and I would be throwing away $40 I could spend on a cheap Musashi. Thanks guys! ;D -Slayer

Hmm... Well, in the discription it says that while the sword has a full tang it is not for use. I've seen a lot of that style of sword at TrueSwords and SOM... at that price, with a warning that its not for use... I would not buy it with the intention of doing anything with it but decorating my wall. I would advice AGAINST cutting with this thing. I persoanly wouldn't waste my cash on it... but if you just love the way it looks and are willing to go backwards (picking up SLO's) rather then forwards in your collecting (buying real, useable swords) then by all means, go for it. Just please, please do not cut with it.

Well, it IS carbon steel and full tang. Besides, what about those $40 functional Musashi swords? I won't buy this sword, or any other sword, if i'm confident it is an SLO. The reason I'd get this is in the hope of finding a 'diamond in the rough', so to speak. While the reviews on TS are NOT from people who know what the heck they're talking about, the general opinion is positive enough that I think SOMEONE would have mentioned if it was really junk... I'm just hoping here... If it really is junk, I'll just save the $ for something a bit higher priced. -Slayer

If it was at all a functional sword, TrueSwords would want to advertise it as such, becuase it would sell better. There has to be a reason they do not... ya know? Other people have posted similar anime looking swords that were 'carbon steel' and full tang... but not for use... and asked the same question you are asking. Ok... its carbon steel... and full tang... but is it tempered/Heat Treated? I bet not... I bet its britle and unflexable... and stands a good chance of snapping if you use it. For a functional weapon... temper is a MUST... or you have a long, hard, BRTTLE peice of steel waiting to jack you up. At that price, with all the fancy fittings and scabbard, something has to give... and my bet is the thing is not tempered and thus not safe to cut with... and that TrueSwords KNOWS this, and thats why they say its not for use. Ya feel me? So... if you DO decide to throw logic out the window and cut with this thing... which I can not urge you enough NOT to do... then PLEASE be super carefull...

Get it, then switch with the bare blade from KC, or better yet: use it to remount your Kaze. Make new tsuka, do leather wrap.

If I do buy this sword, I will safely do some mild tests before stressing it in cutting. TS doesn't say that it's not for use, it says 'not for defensive use', which really applies to ANY sword. I know, I know, but it's not quite the same... I'm just really hoping that SOMEONE on this forum has 1st hand experience with this sword... -Slayer

Not for defensive use is just the languge they chose to say NOT FUNCTIONAL. Trust me... or you'll be sad later on when you out 40 bucks plus shipping that you could have put towards a real sword.

And it's listed under the 'battle ready' section! Ok, so there are 'full tang' 440 Stainless junk swords there, too, but... but... Now I'm confused. -Slayer

well, if he makes a new tsuka, leather wrap with 2 metal pins that should do it - he could use epoxy again lol - that Kaze is now famous... remember leather wrap not cord wrap. i like the looks of that sword.
Slayer, i wouldn't cut witht that sword until modified.

Actually Slayer, there is some reviews by consumers who purchase/handled the sword: www.trueswords.com/product_reviews.php?products_id=3384&page=1Usually the consumer rate the product very high because for that kind of price, it is a good buy. However if you read some comments carefully, there is a mention of "not so sharp blade", "kinda loose fittings" "very cheap metal" and some even mentioned "plasticky" which could mean that the fitting is cheap metal alloy or actual plastic . Base on some of these info, I would join the crowd and advise not to cut with it, unless as Phillip suggest, to properly remount it with better fittings/blade. Yeah a $40 musashi is barely functional too. I purchase a $60 Musashi and I am not very impressed at it. Cheap metal fittings that feels like plastic and it not very sharp. Luckily the handle is not cracked which is very common at this price range . Should have spend a little more on a $80 Takeo lol.

I'm all for getting a good deal... but there is a certain point past which you just have to be realistic. The DH $80 Musashi's... like the Black Bamboo I have... were a pretty good deal for that price. Every now and then, MRL puts something really great on its 'Deal of the Day' and that becomes a great deal. Sometimes you can snag an Ebay sword for a great deal. Something like this tho... for 40 bucks... expecting it to be a functional, useable sword is asking too much. At some point you have to realize that something costing less is not the ONLY indication of a good deal, and you have to be willing to pay a bit more to get something worth while. I would be willing to bet the sword is not tempered... something has to give in that pricerange, and my bet is in this case, its temper. If its metal and sharp... it may still cut... but the first time you flub with it, instead of flexing, it will bend or snap. Myself, I'm past the point of trying to find awesome 40 dollar swords... having options like VA's new line, the Hanwei Tinker swords, having handled Oni Forge swords and customs from Fable Blades... I now realize, quality is WORTH it... and its hard to find a $200 dollar sword that really feels good to me now, having had the chance to handle what a good sword could be. For $40 to find even a half decent sword, I think your stretching the realm of feasability pretty thin at that point.

you know something, that's a great point Shadow...i've been around swords forver now but, my FableBlade makes me really, really happy. i can't explain it. yeah i made an unexpected purchase from slav for the Hira and i can tell you it's just damn awesome...but i feel happier with my FB. i'm pretty much done with kats now. gonna go FB onwards.
Jonathan, save for a Fable. make your own design. i can only imagine how awesome that your first sword is from brendude.

I could have bought a mess of production swords instead of my three Fable Blades... but handling those Fable Blades... seeing them form from my idea and some scribbles to a solid, sharp weapon in my hand... it was worth ever single penny. I know I'm going to get more. Once you KNOW what quality is, its HARD to go backwards... at least for me, to junk or even just standard. The bar has been set higher... I will have LESSs words now, my collection at the moment is HALF the size it was at its apex, but I am much happier with what I have now.

Fewer, better blades is the way to go. You have a KAZE , and are already spoiled by the feel of a good sharp sword. This pos may look nice but you'll play with it for 5 minutes and say "why did all you guys let me waste my money on this?". If you really like the style have Brenno make one for you. Then you get the style you want with the Fableblade quality. See, best of both.

Yeah... I've officially decided to follow your advice and leave this one well enough alone. However, I'm going to be getting a different budget minded blade that has far more potential... Announcement will commence once I've bought it, with a review following shortly thereafter. ;D -Slayer
