I agree. Once he gets his character development good I think he could make pretty epic novels. Right now they are still great though.

If I was wise I would follow his example and start writing now, since I coincidentally plan on becoming an author of fantasy novels. I am cursed with lazyness, which is my tragic flaw.

I would start with the story. Then write down key point of your ideas. The a really rough over view of the story. Then keep going till you got yourself the rough draft of the story. I already am on that path. ;D

Eventually I will get around to doing it, preferably sooner than later.

My suggestions? Start now. Even if just some brainstorms.

That is a good idea. I hope that your path proves to be be easier to tread than mine.

Nah... I got at least 15 books, each in their own different style of writing. Each in their own setting and time frame, some more historically accurate, some pure imagination. Same based on wacky drug trips, and others on scary ones. I am working on the outlines so far. ;D I enjoy writing, but it is a lot of work. I am thinking of just making half of them graphic novels.

It isn't necessarily his age as much as his experience. As I understand it, Eragon was the first novel he wrote, which means that he had little experience. I believe that young people can actually have an advantage when it comes to writing fantasy, because they usually have a more vivid imagination. However, I would never compare Christopher Paolini to J. R. R. Tolkien. Anyways, at least he is off to a good start. Who knows what he could be writing in a few decades? His entire marketing for the novels was a gimmick. "Oh he's young published at 21 blah blah read the book he's just a kid like you blah blah." Except they leave out that he was virtually self-published (his parents owned a small printing firm, since major publishing companies wouldn't touch the book for quite some time. Being a first-time author is not an excuse to publish a sub-par book. Nor is age. There are plenty of first-time published authors who produced fantastic books (Terry Goodkind's "Wizard's First Rule" for example). While I admit that the first book hooked me when I was 15, I also admit that I was young and foolish (still am, but hey) and that I knew nothing of quality literature. Had I stumbled upon the book now instead, I would absolutely pass on it. I'm appalled that books like his and Stephanie Meyer's get published, let alone have movie adaptations and millions of fans.

The way I see it... Better his than Stephanie meters. But nooooooo, hers turned into a popular film, eve though she is like, the WORST writer ever. Even the guy who play Edward Cullen dislikes Stephanie and hates Edward Cullen. My main problems with Eragon was the character development. Almost as bad as Twilight. Though not as quite. ;D

I said that he wasn't the best writer, but his books were interesting. I am still convinced that they (his books) are superior to Stephenie Meyers. She is horrible.

Yes Meyers is horrible, but have you been reading any of the so called fantasy out there. my god most 5 year olds could come up with better story lines. All the old fantasy masters need to come back. I'm so sick of reading wimpy fantasy. Where are the blood and guts to the new stories. With that said, has anybody read Brent Weeks 3 novels? Pretty good.

The Eragon books were pretty good...I read them all twice, but I dig fantasy like that. Twilight was perhaps the biggest flop I've ever seen...all that hype in the previews and vignettes and what was it? A freakin chic flick! My stomach starts to churn now as I recall all of those looks of longing and unrequited emo- spare me, please. I won't even bother with the books...that movie was to vampires what City of Angels did for angels...absolutely nothing.
That was the first movie I ever saw where I suspected all of the vampires to be homosexuals. Not that there's anything wrong with that...it just struck me as weird, because I thought Edward would've been more suited to a male co-lead.
That show, True Blood is how I THOUGHT Twilight was going to be like...show me some badass vampires! It was so cheesy...really.
The Eragon movie should never have been made...you'd think having the author as a consultant would've helped but he just went along with whatever the production company wanted to do...I think he failed in that aspect, he should've protected his IP from being mangled like it was.
What sequel? Right.
