With the 15% discount (plus another 10% for veterans), this sure looks like a good month to pick up an Albion. After looking at some in the SBG For Sale section, I did a little cost comparison, and it looks like new, direct shipped swords can be had for a very good price - in some cases better than used.
So, while the Albions are still over the $300 cap for SBG, many are closer than what they used to be. Just for the sake of discussion, which would you buy if you had the funds? I've been looking at some of the Viking/Medieval designs, and the single-hand Medievals mainly. The one that has really caught my eye, was The Kern. A 25% discount gets that one under a kilobuck. Very tempting but still lot of coin. Feedback on this particular sword or other Albions would be welcome.

It was not so long ago that the type XV was not very common amongst the general high end market. Albion changed that and there are a great many options for the type. While there have been a good number of other offering as well, the XV type has always appealed to me. The Sheriff XIV and Mercenary XVa have been in that order of my lists for a long time.
I also like broader cutters, so the Baron and Duke come to mind. I have played with a Baron and it is quite nice, as it pretty much mirrored my Atrim XIIa (1319/eight inch grip) when comparing one to another. The Baron had a few ounces more weight and a little less hilt length. However, the Duke would be my option for a long broad sword. Since I have the XIIa and XIIIa niche covered with Gus swords, they are secondary to my Albion interests.
I like the look of the Talhoffer and Ringneck as well but in the end, the Sheriff was/is at the top of my own Albion list.
Honestly, those few (except for other XV types) are the only others from them that really grab my interest.
There are quite a few circulating in the secondary market,
Cheers
Hotspur; there had been a pair of hollow ground sword models from the earlier series I would like to have

Soldat. It's different, oft overlooked, and (from what I observe) hardly ever discussed.

For me, in now particular order: The chieftain, cos a good Claymore is rare. The Gallowglass - Irish ringpommel. I guess I have a soft spot for ringpommels, seeing the tang is a little bit dirty The Laird, to me the most aesthetically pleasing of their models. The Knud of all their viking pieces for me. If availability and budget aren't a problem, I'd put a deposit on a Maximillian (that'll be a ripper, and take a Svante Nilsson pommel and guard and put them on a nicer blade. Chuck in a deposit on a dane, cos that's a unique piece, more lance than sword.

If I could get any Albion I wanted today, it'd be the Crecy. Tommorow maybe different.

Lots of choices there, most probably the Prince, the Burgundian,The Gaddhjalt or the Valkyria ( yeah, i know... its sold out ). But the Viceroy and the Maximillian would be first choices by far.

If I were in the position to take advantage of the sale, I think my first pick would be a Yeoman. But that's given I already have a few Albions. But if I had none, it would be between a Yeoman and a Knight and a Gaddjhalt. I have a Knight and Gaddjhalt. They are two of my favorites.

Thanks all for the feedback. I started off looking at some of the Albions for sale in the secondary market, and if it weren't for the substantial discount that Albion is offering this month, my search would have continued with the secondary market. I'm not sure what Albion charges for shipping, but just as an example, the Knight can be had, new for $600 or somewhere thereabouts. Secondary market prices would need to come down quite a bit - or at least the ones I've looked briefly at.
My meager collection currently includes an atrim 1315 - which looks to be very close to a type IX or X. A 1403 is on order, and I have a Windlass claymore (not sharpened tho, and not the same quality by any means). If not the Kern, I've also been considering one of the Vikings such as the Knud. Also like the look of the type XIVs and the Squire (type XVI). Looking real hard at the Gallowglass as well (thanks for pointing that one out Brendan). Definitely fits with my Scottish roots.
So many choices ;D

If I could afford another Albion or two, I would get a Reeve and a Yeoman. I had the chance to handle the Reeve a few years ago and it is an amazing little sword. The Yeoman looks like fun and I like its hilt more than the hilt on the Sheriff.

Two of my first choices as far as Albions go...although the Templar ranks a close third. Now that I've realized swords that fall under the 40" mark just don't suit me so well, I'm more inclined towards the Gaddjhalt or the Templar.

I would have never believed that such a long-bladed single hand sword could handle this well and be this fast and nimble. It was a natural choice for one of Brian's custom scabbards. Comparison photo showing Gaddjhalt (Type XI) on bottom compared to Reeve (Type X) on top.

I already have two Albions, a Squire and a Agincourt. So for my third I would love to get The Vassal , however the blade shape would make it difficult to get through UK customs. Second choice would be one of their type XIV probably The Yeoman. I would also like to get one of their Viking swords probably something like the The Huskarl. But all that is going to take years of saving!

My favorite of the XIV they have is the sherriff actually. It feels the best for me. And for a one hander, I'd probably get that...I really like how it feels...but I have never been a fan of how the XIV blades look. Well unless your talking museum line as well...in which case, sign me up for the soligen as the one hander of my dreams .

I'm for any of their viking blades, just such a viking, type X guy at the moment, heya Mike, me and the others wouldnt say no to a review of your Gaddjhalt if you find the time Actually were really privileged to have ANYONE review, everyones getting so time poor around the place, takes effort and time to cobble a review together and my hats off to anyone that does for the betterment of the community. They reckon the worlds in a grip of a "stress/exhaustion epidemic" ....... I'd believe it too
