I like the knight. I prefer single handed swords and type XII is one of my favorites too, so if I had to choose between the two, for me the choice is easy. you may not agree, you may be more of a long sword guy or like the Crecy's type better.

I go Knight--single-handers all the way. But maybe I'm lying.

Pogo, your avatar would wonder why you even bother with such silly weapons as straight bladed swords. but, yup, this is a serious issue of personal taste. do you want a sports car, or a speed boat? not at all the same thing and very little basis for comparison other than what you want to use it for, then the choice is easy.
Jonathan and I have been talking extensively in PM and I think he's a little more of a Long Sword guy, so I'm reccomending him towards the Crecy right now. that is until the agony of making a choice twists in his guts again and he HAS to have something else.
Face it Jonathan, you need to keep a steady job and get LOTS of different high-end swords. forget getting a car, forget college, or eventually settling down and buying a house or having a family, it's swords for you buddy! have steel children, they eat less! (sorry, early moning silliness)

I think you're right. I should drop out of school so I can sell drugs in order to buy lots of swords. Haha, oh gosh...

NOW you're talking sense! that-a-boy, I knew you'd figure it out. who needs school when you have enough swords?
ah, if only. maybe not the selling drugs part, but ahhhhh. you could be a homeless bum and carry a sign the reads "Will work for swords"

I don't think I know too many people who are willing to part with a sword.

While I truly love the Xa, XIIa and XIIIa swords, my first love was the Albion Knight. That epitomized the symbol of knighthood in its highest ideal...keep in mind, this is how I saw it.
Having said that, the Knight is just a touch shorter than I prefer (which is why I have been considering either the Gaddhjalt or Templar as they are Xa blades which are the perfect length for me), I would definitely choose it over the Crecy.
Any day of the week.

How would you compare the Knight's performance to other XIIas?

The choice for me is easy too. I like two kinds of swords. Good single-handers of Type XII are among my favorite. So the Knight is the hands-down choice in this debate.
I also like later period longswords with true two-handed grips of 8-9 inches. The Crecy doesn't fit that, so I would prefer something else for a longsword.
That said, I still love my Crecy for what it is.

I like XII single handers and XIIa two handers, as well as the Crecy. So the choice for me is a lot more difficult.

How would you compare the Knight's performance to other XIIas? The Knight is a type XII; as such it is shorter and somewhat lighter than its XIIa brethren. You'll notice it most when you're actually holding it- it sits in your hand like you were born with it. I can't say the same for the Crecy but I'm not a fan of longswords in general- I love their look but not to wield. I'm cursed with small hands and short arms so I'll have more problem with the longer swords than most, I'd wager. To answer your question directly, the Knight will outperform other XIIa's in every arena except for reach; it is a well-balanced cutter that won't wear your arm out. This is my opinion; your mileage may vary. You know, I don't particularly care for that phrase...not likely to use it much.

I can't believe I called it an XIIa, because I know that I knew the difference at the time. I believe that I was thinking about another sword when I asked that question. Yes, the knight does look like an excellent XII. I personally like XIIs and Xs best in the one-handed category. I like two handed swords the best, though. Well, it actually differs. When I am in my Tolkien mood I like two handed swords, and when I am in my knight mood I like one handed swords, so that I can use a shield. That is why I have decided to get both.

I have a Crecy and really like it, it's a lovely looking and handling sword. It has more mass than my other swords and that manifests in a pretty thick edge. I can't cut as well with it as ShooterMike does... and my sword is paper cutting sharp (he notes that his is not). The Knight looks like a great cutter from what I've seen.

Yes, I believe that they are both excellent swords. It is interesting to see what everyone's preferences are.
