Yeah.. I wouldnt pay 1300 ... maybe not even 130... but maybe, if I could have it remounted.... I hear that. It was the (ridiculous?) strange fittings that turned me off. I'm sure the blade is good.

I'd pay the $130 in a heartbeat... and then I'd test and review the crap out of it for everyone here at SBG so we could answer some long asked questions about this stuff. However, I don't like the look of it myself.

I know many may think I would be the last to be discussing Angel, there are some good back stories there over the year. On some of Mac's old pages were pictures and descriptions of Dan Watson's table at the 2005 S.H.O.T. show in 2005. www.myarmoury.com/albums/thumbnails.php?album=162&page=2That gallery is good viewing for other things as well. The thread behind some of that discusssion vcan be found here. Wothwhile viewing for some great baskethilts if nothing else. The Las Vegas Custom Knife & Antique Arms Show 2005 www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=3180Some more discussion regarding Angel www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=6757Angel Sword's Thermal Processing Review www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=891From Gus www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=1073More cryo www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=801Somewhere, either Sssfeye or mamy, is a thread where David Stokes was scheduled to compare some of Dan's work vs Gus' work. For the life of me I don't recall the particulars exactly but that it never happened for one reason or another, or was privately discussed, yet available. David might be one to contact regarding the test. In other regards, gerneally exploring history regarding the techno, alloy banding and other neat tricks would be a good read in the Metallurgy section of SFI, There is a lot there for any interested about steels and processes might enjoy and benefit from. Cheers Hotspur; I've never met him in person but have exchanged some thoughts with him over the years

I don't care if they use Techno Wootz or Magic Wootz. Unless the smiths at AS are really High Elves from Middle Earth, it's not going to make that much of a difference in the final product.

I didn't mention the information while expecting any converts. Simply some more background that is available that allows those interested in the person swords or collective communities to absorb what they might. Someone entering into interests of swords just might find some of those links useful. Cheers Hotpsur; nobody is twisting any arms here to learn more

Well like I said, the skill they have with metal is pretty good. The swords themselves are pretty nice swords. The price is ridiculous however and their claims are even worse. However the things they do with metal and the patterns they can get is pretty cool. I mean hate em all you want, you can't deny they have some skill with metal.

Clearly these guys are quite the controversial sword makers.

I heard that they bent one of their swords almost into a circle until it snapped. That would have to mean they did a superb job on the tempering I guess. I still don't see how their swords are that much better than other swords. They might be somewhat better, but for a 13k sword, I would expect it to be a lot better. One of the guys on one of those links that hotspur posted said that he bought one of their swords and that he beat it up pretty bad. The tip supposedly bent. He posted a picture of it and it wasn't very attractive to me. They obviously have a lot of skill with metal, but I find their claims to be somewhat far-fetched, if you understand me.

In that case, their flex test proves nothing. It would be interesting if they didn't break it and actually let it snap back.

Pardon my French but WTF? While I did acknowledge Angel and posted a link to some threads, obviously Mac's gallery and the SHOT thread (which had a great deal more to offer) just might have been a real treat.
Was there any value at all to looking at those threads and gallery for simply appreciating the information?
Cheers

Hotspur, I never said that I didn't appreciate those links. I didn't have any information at first, so I was just making a hypothesis. When I actually read the threads I got a better idea on everything, and what I got out of it was that the cryo thing that AS uses isn't a whole lot better than what AT uses. I may be wrong, but that is just how I interpreted it.

I think Jonathan actually understands it pretty well. I mean the processes AS uses may and probably do increase the toughness and hardness of the steel but there comes a time when the returns from increased technique and price range lessen. it's the same in many things a lot of top-end computers only out perform their half-their-price competition by10% tops. I can see some people really loving an Angel Sword, but I can also see some people picking one up and saying "why in the world is this worth so much?" I think that I am one of the latter people types but that's just an opinion and far be it from me to ridicule one of the former types.
also there is so much more to making a good sword than good steel. design is highly important and it is my opinion that their designs do not appear to be the level of quality I would want for that price. I'm sure there are those who dissagree with me and they are welcome to love their Angel Swords. I would love to pick one up and maybe cut with it once or twice for curiosity's sake.
in the end even if they are the most stunningly awesome swords ever I will likely never own one because of the price. I just canot afford it and so there may be a certain level of "Sour Grapes" effect in my opinion. I can accept that.

I wonder how these guys stay in business with having their prices so high.... but then again, if they sell one sword they're good for the next 2 months...

I wonder how these guys stay in business with having their prices so high.... but then again, if they sell one sword they're good for the next 2 months... There will always be people in the world that belive expensive means better. If a car costs 200k... it must be better then a car that costs 35k. If a Watch costs 10k, it's better the one that costs a couple hundred. And so on. I think Angle Sword makes most of its money from Ren Faire types who see the stuff, hear the claims, see the price is 10x the sword guy next door, and go 'Wow, these must be the best swords ever, period... I gotta have one.' Thats just one mans opinion, tho.
