I can't contain my excitement anymore! I have ordered a Tinker/Hanwei fullered bastard sword from Michael "Tinker" Pierce, and should receive it on Wednesday.
He has taken it to stage 1 (sharpened, polished, guard re-forged to be bent forward like the pictures on his website).
Mr. Pierce has been a delight to work with, and I will be ordering more swords from him. He is just the type of artist/businessman we need to keep in business, with old time values such as respect and dignity that are sadly lacking in today's society.
I will post some pictures when I get the sword, and I will attempt to provide a review, as best I can. I am already eying one of his long swords, semi-customized like the bastard sword, perhaps with a monogram on the pommel.

Nice! Congratulations! Yeah, these Tinker swords are quiet a value for money. I plan on buying a longsword blade and doing the grip myself. Post some cutting videos, when you got it!

I will do my best to show what it can do. I am a newbie with western swords, so my technique will be awful at best. I am sure, however, that the quality of the sword will show itself despite my efforts.
Please post some pictures and/or cutting videos of the long sword if you get one before I do. I really like the looks of that one too!

You'll have to wait a couple weeks before I can post any cutting videos with the longsword. I didn't order it yet, it's just planned. But I will, no doubt about that.

All,
It hath arrived! I am amazed at the handling! Very quick and easy to maneuver. Easier than my Cheness Kaze. Who knew that western swords were such sophisticated weapons of war!
I am very pleased with this unassuming, working man's weapon. Well done Mr. Pierce! I think this will always be my favorite sword.
I will be posting photos and a review as soon as I get a chance.
What's next? I'm taking any and all suggestions for my next Euro sword. I am in the market for up to $700.
I appreciate your help is establishing a list to check out!
Thanks, Strider

Strider, welcome to the Euro sword world...now since you've had a Tinker/Hanwei collabo, maybe you want to try a Atrim/VA collabo; got a lot of nice models coming down the pike, the Templar is my personal favorite and will probably become my primary weapon, at least for a while: www.valiant-armoury.com/signature.phpThe Signature Line is what I am referring to but browse their entire collection; never know what'll tickle your fancy!

Hand and a half or two handed, medieval period Thanks, Strider As you have the pointy longsword now, I suggest something like Valiant Kriegschwert or to wait some time for the coming Tinker/Hanwei XIIIa warsword.

Luka,
Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to spend the evening looking at both yours and Ebon's suggestions, drooling over all of the fantastic swords I will see, and pick one for my next acquisition.
I appreciate all of the help you, Ebon, and anyone else can give to help me first develop a varied western collection, and then more variations on a specific theme.
I will keep you all informed of my search. I have also been studying several sword books, and historical information online, so combining all of this input to pick a new sword is really exciting!

Chris, I hope to be able to get some pictures up before the weekend, but I am finishing a 25 page paper and studying for my final for my MBA International Business class, and working as a Director for a large Food company during the day, so time is at a premium right now. I finish the class this weekend and will have some time to properly focus on my real love! (don't tell my wife it is sharp pieces of steel). Suffice it to say, I was completely taken by katanas and started collecting them exclusively. I have been converted to the dark side, however, and will probably not acquire any more katanas after my SBG custom comes in August, until I have developed a large collection of western euro swords.
I love my Tinker Hanwei fullered bastard sword so much that even though I have swords displayed on all the walls of my bedroom, I have placed the Tinker/Hanwei so that it hangs right in my line of sight when I lay in bed. It is just out of reach, which is a good thing, or I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off of it.
Be back to you all soon with pictures and initial thoughts!

Chris, I would like to ask you a favor of responding with some of your favorite euro swords so that I can look them over to help decide what my next little beauty will be.
Thanks, Strider

Is it possible that you could give me a link to the website of your recently acquired sword? It sounds like it could be just my type, so to speak.

Hey Darkstrider! Have you looked into ATrims? If you are willing to pay up to $700, you could get any of his swords, assuming you're cool with the 'simple and practical' look. Short of a custom, I highly doubt that there is a better cutting blade than an ATrim (euro catagory only, that is). There are a few reviews of ATrims her on SBG, check the review index Alvin linked to above. Here's a link to Christian Fletcher's site, as he's the sole distributer of ATrim blades: www.christianfletcher.com/Christian_Fletcher/Angus_Trim.htmlAlso, if you are willing to buy second hand, you could score an Albion or an Atrim for much less, or even a custom Tinkersword or JS someone is having to part with. Keep an eye on the classifieds over at SFI and myarmoury if that appeals to you. I hope this helps, and good hunting! -Slayer

Slayer, Thou art truly a knight in shining armor. I shall indeed look into thine suggestions, and I thank thou for thy wisdom! I do indeed like an honest blade, unassuming, and plain. What is important is the quality and handling - such that mine opponent suspects nothing, until mine plain blade doth cleave him in two.
Sorry about that, I don't know why I find myself talking like that. It must be the forum, and mine new-found obsession with medieval blades.

Alvin,
Thank thou for thine help and wisdom! Thou hast indeed sent links to similar blades. Mine Tinker/Hanwei hath a fuller, and the guard hath been re-forged by Mr. Tinker such that it doth now curve gracefully forward toward the sword tip.
I shall endeavor to upload a couple of pictures tonight if time allows. I do not wish to disappoint mine fine friends on this forum! Although relatively new to mine appreciation for such beautiful works of steel art, I have been treated with the utmost of respect by all. I wish do do my part in contributing to the community.
Thanks, Strider
