I want to get a Hanwei Tinker Bastard. Probably both the sharp and blunt. So if I get one, I can get a replacement blade only for the other option. But then there's no cover for the alternate blade when it's not mounted. Maybe I should make a shirasaya? So does it matter if I buy the sharp mounted and get a blunt blade, or if I get a blunt mounted and a sharp replacement blade?

It shouldn't; from what I have heard these blades should be interchangeable; the blunt's handling characteristics should not be THAT much different than the sharp and the way they're made, you can swap'm out as you see fit.
Toss the one you're not using in a swordbag if you have one laying around.

I would get the sharp mounted and get the blunt replacement blade. A non covered blunt isnĀ“t nearly as bad a non covered sharp. The reports have the tinker blunts as too stiff though so if you get yours please share what you think since I was thinking of doing the same thing .

Right-o, Cold Napalm. Probably if I was using the sharp, it would be for cutting, and then the blunt could stay in the scabbard. As a costume accessory it wouldn't matter if it was sharp or not.
