I was reading the review for this sword ealier and the author made the comparison to that of a swiss saber as far as blade design. Would this then make a good project blade for that kind of design?

Read this thread:

The answer would seem to be: yes.

I love my Dark sentinel.
Only the scabbard is sempriniesque but it is a ver nice sword especially seeing the prize.
For my taste the handle is a bit too long but it still handeles great. The blade is pretty thin but very strong. I cuts really well.

Make sure you don't get the SS version; I've seen one floating around that looks almost exactly like the Hanwei version except that its 440 SS.

Although these are pretty horrible pictures and I didn't get a good picture of the blade overall, the center one on this table is a Swiss type sabre. These were from a Hartford 2007 show, always stuff to see and handle. I would think the Sentinel blade might be a bit light for this arrangement, as the one at the show was a pretty hefty blade. beautiful in person but my pictures that day were the doots. There are some more pictures of similar sabres over at myArmoury. One of the fairly recent rebuilds was a Gus Trim blade that had been gound down as a sabre and assembled with an 18th century monsterhead hilt from GGGodwin. The blade made its way to another that put a basket on it. Speaking of, Aaron Justice has done a couple of baskethilt katana. Cheers Hotspur; the writhen hilts of the older period are quite nice looking
