Does anyone have any experience with the VA War Sword? It is a great looking sword and at $129.00 on Kult of Athena it seems like a great deal for a first sword. Your opinions are appreciated.

That´s a pre-sonny valiant sword. They aren´t very historically accurate...the quality is spotty...the wood grip is slick and not good for practical use...the grip is rounded for hard edge alignment. Save up and get better unless this is absolutely your budget limit. And considering you can get good swords like the windlass type XIV for about 50 bucks more or the atrim practical line for about 100 more, I really advise against this sword. And those two sword you may not grow out of(even people who collect albions and full blown atrims see value in having these two swords in their collecction)...the pre-sonny valiant ones you will definitely grow out of if it doesn´t cause you to quit collecting.

CAS Hanwei also makes the War Sword. Would this be of any better quality?

I've posted my thoughts before on the War sword before, in the sword of nobility thread. They too were asking about a sword from the pre-Sonny days at VA too.
In short, during light cutting (a bottle, I believe) the tang snapped, and sent the blade and handguard flying to quiver between my friend's legs. Luckily he jumped.
Windlass makes good short blades, like the XIV, though their classic medieval seems to be getting good reviews too. Gen2 are excellent beaters, as are darksword armory...and, actually, I believe both are lighter than the war sword. That one was heavy!
I have to agree with Cold, though...a new VA Atrim is probably the best value for the money one can get, in our price bracket. Had I not gotten one h*ll of a deal on a A&A black prince, I'd have one right now.
Hope this helps.

If you dig the War Sword, wait until next year. Sonny is revamping the old line with Atrim-based blades.

WAs not a fan of the pre-Sonny VA offerings...got to handle a couple of them and was left unimpressed. I have one of the Arming swords and I must say, it is head and shoulders above their regular lineup. Sonny's doin some great things over there...

This is an Artistic representation of the new VA War Sword planned for early next year. The sword is actually in pre production. It will be made the same as the Gus Trim Practical cutters on a Gus Trim designed Blade. It even has the same pommel that the Malatesta has. It will be fully customizable in the Custom Sword Shoppe. We are trying to talk Christian Fletcher into doing a Signature version of it as well. We'll see. This sword is designed to resemble the original yet improve upon it dramatically. Historical plausibility is more descriptive of this rather than Historical Accuracy. Sonny

There will be a new Irish Ring Sword. I am not certain if it will be a Hand and a Half. Gus sent a blade to Christian awhile back but I don't remember the blade type.

Cool Sonny. Bugger historical Accuracy. That just means you'd have come up with nothing new. But historically plausible means you've created something new and artistic, along good design guidelines with some luck. Good stuff!

Well I like historically accurate . But I agree that if it isn't exactly typical and just runs alongs the lines of historical swords, then historically inspired or historically plausable is a good way to market these swords and I highly approve of sonny for this. He is doing some fantastic things over there at valiant . And even if it isn't historically accurate, I may get one of the redone models when it comes out. They looks nice and I know exactly what I'm getting from him...and I approve of this.

Oh on a side note, sonny, if you can, having a thread with your redesign´s artistic sketches all in a thread for us to oggle at would be kinda cool if you can. And it would give valuable feedback *wink* *wink* . Also just saw the passau and knight templar on your websites...really nice work.
