I got my Arming Sword and Kriegschwert a week and a half ago and I have been tardy in getting some pictures up. In my defense the weather here has not been cooperating and the near constant rain for a week has kept me from getting decent pictures. Even these I am not thrilled with but they are something.
This is not a review as I have not had time to really get a feel for the swords yet due the afore-mentioned weather. I will give a very general feel and impressions of the Kriegschwert. Consider this my trial run before doing my first review.
The two swords came in separate outer boxes taped together. Each sword also was in an inner box for added protection. As you can see from the picture below the packing took a beating but luckily the sword was well protected.
VA did an excellent job on the sheath. I am eagerly waiting for the belt and suspension system. I am sure they will do an equally great job on those.
The blade is nicely done though there is a small scratch near the hilt that I could not get a good picture of. It is very shallow and should be easily removed with Metal Glo.
The guard and pommel are nicely done. It is not a perfectly smooth job, for which I am grateful. It has a handmade feel to it that I really like.
My only "complaint" is the somewhat unaligned seam on the hilt. It could have been a little neater. It is noticable when gripping the sword but not obtrusive and does not bother me at all. it's just noticable when I think about it. Also the hilt is a bit on the thin side for my average sized hands. A larger pair of hands might find it too thin.
Here the point. Not much to say other than it is nicely worked.
That's all I had time to do as it started to rain after I clicked those few pictures
I must say that I am very happy with this sword and would not hesitate to recommend it.
The little bit of cutting I have done with it has shown it to be very sharp and though a bit blade heavy (not unusual for a type XIIa) it handles nicely. When I have time for more practice with it I will go for a full review.
I hope this was helpful to those wanting to see and hear a little about the Kriegschwert.
