Ladies and gentlemen:
Is there a source out there for after market basket hilts which could be fitted to, oh, say, a Valiant Armoury AT303S? (I have no idea why I picked this particular sword to use as a reference point, honestly!)
For that matter, how similar are most production swords? To wit, if you bought a basket hilt broadsword from Cold Steel, would you face an agony of frustration in attempting to play "floppsy swapsy" with hilt and guard bits between the Cold Steel and (purely hypothetically) a AT303S?
The "kilted" part of me is acting up, and I'm feeling the lack of a basket hilted sword, most profoundly.
Many thanks in advance!

Billiam:
Thank you, sir. When I look at the website, I see blades, hilts and pommels listed. Are guards a thing he undertakes on a one-off type affair? It is quite possible that I'm just missing the guards section---sometimes I cannae see the nose in front of my face.

Here's an example of a "after market" hilt Scott did for me recently: Atrim with Arms and Post hilt The DA site is under construction but IIRC a basket hilts minus the blade would be around $275-300 depending on type of hilt. Email Scott, he's always willing to answer questions and he replies fairly quickly.

I've dealt with Darkwood too. Good guys.
If you have a blade to send them, that usually works out best. I know they will fit up hilts to ATrim blades. I'm guessing they would be happy to work on one of the new VA Practicals too.
I'd suggest giving them a call to discuss what you have in mind. They've always been open on the phone and willing to listen, if you know what you want and are actually serious about doing it.

ditto on everything said so far....just contact Scott (phone or email) and sure he'll work with you on what you want.
custom basket-hilt maker guru E.B. (Eljay) Erickson is another route but his waiting list is probably 1 -2 years.
cheers,
Bill

Gentlemen, thank you for your assistance in this matter. Good information from everyone, muchly appreciated. I've seen some of Eljay's hilts over at myarmoury.com, and they have been jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Guys:
E-mail has been sent, mind has been reconciled to spending more than the purchase plus shipping price for a custom basket hilt. Will keep all updated.
Once more, many thanks for the "G2"!
