I've lately been looking at swords I've never really liked before; rapiers. I've been looking at some SBG reviews and really liked some of them. (Hanwei Bone Handled Swept Hilt especially) Problem is, none of them seem to come sharpened on the edge. If I get one, I would really like to use it for light cuts, too, but I don't (yet, at least) have any means of sharpening it myself. So, my criteria for a rapier.. - Sub 300$ - Sharp edge - Usable, obviously (decent handling) (and of course, the prettier, the better ;D) Suggestions?

Does it have to be a rapier? Or are you interested in similar swords like the sword-rapier/sidesword to? I've been looking for a decent sidesword myself and the only (cheap) sword that I might check out is this one: www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=54-050&Category_Code=MBI haven't found a specific review though . As for the hanwei renaissance line I found most of them are only sharp at the top end of the blade and stay away from the wire wrapped ones they have a nasty hollow plastic core in the handle. (I own the hanwei sidesword and my handle cracked when I disassembled it). Edit: Del tin makes some nice rapier style stuff to but some might be too expensive and they are all blunt because of Italian rules.

Nice sword indeed but do you have an idea what the shipping cost to Europe would be? Edit; Lol for me it might be cheaper getting it from mrl. At the only European site I found it at so far it would cost $359.79 sharpened against the MRL price of $167.-... Makes me hate living in Europe

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I know what you mean Bart, every sword in Europe seems to be overpriced as hell. :/ I'm going to contact MRL soon and ask about the shipping costs.

If importing is too expensive you could try these guys: www.swords-and-more.com This is were i found the previously mentioned sword. All I know is that its a German store, I've never bought anything from them. It's listed as a windlass sword.

I've got a brass swept hilt rapier from Windlass that is sharpened that I'll be selling soon for only $80... but I dunno what shipping out to where you are would be. Still, would be a lot cheaper then some options.

I've been thinking about this and I don't know about tax/import fees you might have to pay but over here they can be pretty expensive. 19% on the total value (including the cost of shipping and insurance) plus a small percentage on an import fee. So you might want to check this with your local custom service. It might be much easier and cheaper to get your hanwei rapier and accusharp locally.
Edit; or buying a used one (and maybe they will even be pursuaded to cheat on the value ;D)

Shadowhowler: That's a very tempting price. Can you tell me more; what kind of condition is it in? Maybe some pictures? If you have some estimate to the weight of the whole package, I know USPS has a shipping fee calculator I could use.. Bart: I know, when I ordered my Tenchi, there was a ~30 € fee. :/ But even with fees, it's still cheaper for me to order them. The prices anywhere near me are just ridiculous. I also am not yet ready to risk a sword by trying to sharpen it myself.
