Odingaard's recent thread on Albions got me thinking of trying to find one cheap and within my budget. In my aimless wanderings of the webernet I came across this website. They have some nice scabbard fittings I'd looked at before but I'd never bothered to check out their swords. www.viking-shield.com/Look under their Albion swords. They have three squire line swords I've never seen before. How come Albion doesn't offer these swords? I thought the squire line only had four swords in it. Are these swords some sort of exclusive run for viking-shield? They look awesome and are practically clones of the next gen. line. just a bit rougher looking. If these are new, might there be more? So in summery, does anyone know anything about these swords? I'm really curious.

What are you talking about? They're all listed on either albion-swords.com or albion-europe.com, and there's only three of them.

He's referring to the fact that these three Albion swords, the Vinland, the Gotland, and the Clontarf, are not the regular, Next Generation models. They are SQUIRE LINE versions which are NOT listed under the Squire Line of the official Albion webpage.

I guess I read wrong then. Any chance they're not just mislisted? They look completely identical.

I wonder whether or not they are mislisted- the finish on some of those look like the Next Gen line; especially that Gotland. Maybe they've discontinued those particular models so they're being sold as part of that line. As far as I knew, there were only 4 sword models in the Squire line. If I only had the money...

The additional three swords one sees on the Viking Shield site are proprietary of that site. It is not a misprint. They have been offered for some time. They are not available on the Albion site, nor other sites I know of. That would lend suggestion that perhaps thre was a hard contract with Albion, not unlike arrangements Albion has made with others in the past. Cheers Hotspur; the site does come up with some regularityHere is the earliest review I find from a forumite in summer 2007 forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=82666www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=11032Mike has offered up several viking reviews on a couple of sites

Thanks Hotspur, that's pretty much what I suspected. I was just surprised to see them since I'd never heard of them before. Uncreative, they are definitely different. If you bring up Albion's site as well and compare the two photos side by side it's easy to tell the difference. The finish is not nearly as good as the next gen models. It is rougher and less polished. I for one think they actually look almost better this way. It's like an ever so slight antiquing. This really makes me wish a had the 500$ for a Gotland! Alas I do not

I was very impressed with the regular Albion Squireline viking. A friend had added one to his collection and loves it for cutting with a single hander.
Mike relates the finish of the Viking Shield as having a slightly better blade finish as far as the edges go but even on other visually secondary edges are often easily polished to the same grit and vanish. The regular Albion Squire Line swords that are sharpened in house still do a great job at the stand.
Viking Shield was a fairly new venture compared to other sources but everything I have ever read about them rates the source as top tier in satisfaction.
Cheers
Hotspur; Del Tin and Binn swords as well
