Just got my Museum Replicas catalog in the mail yesterday and thought to point out some interesting new models they just came out with. First is this unique looking rapier. It's called the Pilsen rapier. I'm liking the design of the hilt. museumreplicas.com/p-834-pilsen-rapier.aspxThis one's called the Chioggia Sword. I like the looks of it but I'm betting its a threaded pommel. It seems lighter, too, which is nice to see. museumreplicas.com/p-858-chioggia-sword.aspxNow this one I don't like. If they didn't say this was from a museum, I would have thought they made the design up. It just seems off to me. Edinburgh Claymore: museumreplicas.com/p-875-edinburgh-claymore.aspxIt looks like they're trying to step it up a little with this one. Kind of intersting but the hilt looks a bit chunky for my tastes. At least this is a more intersting scabbard, too. It's on sale for an introductory price. Sword of the Viking King: museumreplicas.com/p-688-sword-of-the-viking-king.aspxThis one, called Blacksword, has no historical claims to accuracy, but the design seems interesting. I usually don't like blued blades, but this one has a positive visual asthetic for some reason. museumreplicas.com/p-898-blacksword.aspxSo what does everyone think?

Actually, the Edinburgh is based off a museum piece. They got it wrong, though, it's supposed to have four quillions. The Viking King is supposed to be pretty whippy, it's been out for a little while. Blacksword is a LotR inspired blade without all those pesky copyrights. Someone got to see it in person already, I guess it's handles pretty terribly and the blade is coated, not blued. Don't know about the other ones. Not a rapier kinda guy, and the other one doesn't really appeal to me.

I saw the chioggia at KOA and half considered it. I like the way it looks and I think it would have a lot of potential as a project.

It's been mentioned in another thread here that the claymore left off one of the quillions. I made a thread about the Blacksword in the Fantasy Sword section you could check out. The Sword of the Viking King isn't as nice as their Norwegian Viking Sword, though I'd put my money on the Tinkerline Viking, which has the same style and is cheaper than the Viking King.

I like the Pilsen rapier... it's a bit pricy tho for what it is. At that price there are better choices, and for just a little bit more, there are a LOT of better choices. I DO like the design of it tho. The Viking King sword is all about the scabbard. The scabbard looks awesome... the sword inside is 'meh' by all accounts. The other pieces don't interest me.

They should of just put the Norse Sword in the new scabbard frankly, with some etching on the blade and wound leather handle.

uhhhh what's up with the grip on the Edinburgh Claymore? Was there a glitch in the matrix or was it made like that?

You guys must've checked these out online before the catalogs came out, huh? And here I thought I was reporting the news headlines. All well! ;D
Yeah, that Edinburgh is one odd duck. The grip really is that way. That part of it bothers me more than the quillions, really.
As for the rapier, I know it could be found for lots cheaper elsewhere. These were right off MRL's website, and their prices are not pretty, to say the least.
Maybe I need to head up to KOA myself and check these out. Always looking for an excuse to go! I didn't think they'd have any of them quite yet, though. I'll have to take a look at their website.

I just noticed a couple when I got the catalog, but I've seen a couple others mentioned on here. I don't really cruise MRL's site anymore.

Ah, that would explain the strange curved shape. I wonder if that threw off the handling terribly?

Probably not. If it aligned with the blade right, that might even help with edge alignment for cutting.

Yeah, shadowholer, you're right, of course! Those claymores are silly, aren't they?
They had an announcement on the back of the catalog about making plans to attend the sale which I was kind of annoyed by, too. If they wanted me to go so badly, why couldn't they've gotten their dang catalog out ealier?

You didn't miss much... Like Ebon said, the big sale was not very impresive. Maybe it was better if you got there at 8am, but by 1pm when I arrived, not so much. They DID have a lot of interesting 'franken-swords'... swords cobbled together with extra blades and fittings... and those were going VERY cheep... like 40-80 bucks... so they were a great deal if you found one you liked. However, aside from that, not much to see.

LMAO @ franken swords
I like that one Sean, that's a good one. I didn't get on the site til after noon so what I saw there, let us just say, I was a bit far from 'blown away'.
I doubt I'll be buying much in the way of weaponry from MRL for the moment, I'm kinda soured on them right now. But they are good for a 'quick fix' while waiting for something much more substantial. lol
