i have a colorful history with folding pocket swords and am in the market for an every day companion that can serve a multitude of functions... (i was actually intrigued by cold steel's triple action tanto point) what would you suggest as an every day pocket sword from cold steel? or better suggestions

Hmmmmm I'd go with their Scimitar or one of the gunsights. They're long enough to be a pocket sword, but utilitarian enough for the everyday. Or you could go with a literal pocket sword and get the middle sized Espada.

I'm not that big a fan of cold steel knives, though i must say I do like the simplicity of CS The Spectre, or the Caledonian Edge. however i don't like the price. For the kind of money they are asking you could get a really nice knife from a smaller maker.

Honestly, if you don't buy from them direct, their prices can be quite reasonable. I dunno how you feel about hawkbill blades, but if you like 'em, I would HIGHLY recommend the spyderco Harpy. I like it, personally. And as to Cold Steel... If you like the tanto point style, I really would say take a second look at the Gunsight or some of the medium tanto point Voyagers. Also, if you really want to put a little more dough into it, the Recon 1 Tanto is a sweet blade.
