Hello people another review here. This time I’ll be talking about the Chikara katana from global gear. Plz note that my camera isn’t all that professional and I wasn’t really able to highlight the sword to its max so the pictures aren’t that good. The first thing I noticed was the box which was of poorer quality then the on of the V1 (the one Paul reviewed). No hinges or anything just a wooden box which you can push together. Not that I mind it’s the sword that matters right. The maintenance kit also went back a bit in quality. Another thing that changed is the saya it isn’t a powder coated one anymore it’s a standard glossy saya. The sageo is a bit loose in my opinion especially when compared to the one I have on my kaze katana. The blade itself is just awesome the hamon is truly beautiful its just awesome to look at. The blade is sharp papercutting isn’t any problem. Altough I did find a blunt piece on the cutting edge near the tsuba (around 2 inches) the rest of the edge is sharp. I must say the fittings of the blade are very well to bad about the sageo. I did papercutting as told and some bottle cutting. Both results were very well the sword (even with my horrible form) goes straight through the target no problems there. Piercing isn’t a problem either. Now here are some pictures (again sorry for the bad quality). The closed box The maintenance kit The sageo and the ito The blunter part of the edge 2 pictures trying to highlight the hamon and the sword in general.

WOW! congrats Jeroen That's to bad about the glossy saya and the loose sageo They wrapped the ito differently as well...but it still looks like beautiful sword!!! The fittings do look more like the ones in Paul Southern's review, and that hamon Got a few questions though -where did you get it? -how much did you pay? -does the ito feel at all loose? -and can you post more pics? ;D

Umm... Shouldn't this be like under the sword review section? Nevertheless, good review and decent pictures. Though imust say, the battle wrap on it on it looks horrible... The tsuka-ito looks really thick/ wide. Gotta love the hamon. Congrats on the sword

the sageo is loose? sorry but ummmmm do we really care? I mean, I would untie the presentation knot and start using it the way sageo is intended, to tie to your belt. you didn't mean the ito did you? I mean that would be a problem, but loose sageo? I just don't understand. ok I hope this doesn't sound offensive, I don't want that, but I'm a bit confused. thanks. oh and that looks like a very sexy blade but I just can't get over the suede ito (it is still suede isn't it?). they used to have the option of getting cotton or something else as I recall, do they still? glad you like it, sure looks nice.

Damn, that sageo isn't suede is it? I've never seen a suede sageo. The hamon looks nice, and the polish on the blade appears decent...but the fittings, tsuba, and ito/sageo are not my cup 'O tea.

ok to answer all your questions and write a thing about the comment: _andrew359: I got it from the global gear website for 490AUD (including shipping which seems to be around 150 AUD) at least i think it was 490 its been 6 months ago since i payed up and they raised the price now so not that sure. The ito isn't loose at all it feels firm so I'm quit happy about that^^. _xenomorph: yeah the itowrapping isn't that traditional altough i do like it kinda fits with the sword i guess. altough I would've been a bigger fan of the more traditional wrapping. _tom K: Yeah the sageo is loos which doesn't really matter that much it was just a thing that i noticed therefore i tought I'd mention it. And no I'm not offended at all everyone is free to speak out his or her opinion right? and yes the ito and the sageo as well are still suede which kinda bugs me a bit since it isn't really my cup of tea but it does the job as well firm grip, ito isn't loose at all so that makes me happy with it. I haven't heard about the option for cotton it wasn't on their website when i ordered it but i think it is like this: the G901 V2 chikara was with a suede wrapping and the G919 V2 culture katana was with a cotton wrapping. But i was more into the chikara due to its tsuba. _slavia631: you mean the knot in the ito? or am i just mistaking _oni: oh yes the sageo is suede as well. the hamon is just awesome in my opinion the polish isn't that great but thats partially my fault since i didn't remove the oil (which smelled like motor oil lol) all that great going to give it a good cleaning run in a day or so. and if you aren't a fan of the tsuba and ito you should check out their culture katana same blade only a different design with the fittings. grtz to you all ^^

@absilitis did you get it? And if so was yours also a bit dull at the tsuba end (as showing in my picture) I'm doubting if its a batchproblem or just an isolated incident

Oohh, you're making me curious now. I've had to stop at papercutting and slicing up some bottles since I don't have decent cuttingstand yet and I'm not in the posession of tatami rolls either ^^ so the lightweight targets weren't that much of a problem (even with my bad form)

many production katana are pretty blunt right in front of the tsuba. not sure why, just something I've seen and heard of. if you're brave you could sharpen it starting with either a file or a coarse stone. . . but that's a lot of work.

It doesn't really matter does it? Who would be cutting with that part of the blade?

Thanks for the review! I've been waiting to see more photos of the updated model.
I'm not a fan of the battle wrap in suede, it looked better wrapped normally in suede, as in Paul's review photos, I think.
Thanks for the tip about the Culture model, it does look much more down my alley.

Hey Jeroen, nice review - I'm giving you 15 points for it, because typically we like to see a few more pictures and a bit more info/stats about the sword itself. But good effort for sure!

Dont worry, I got jumpy that someone else would do a review before I got to do my first reviewof the same sword.. I just tried to the best I could do no matter what! your pictures were decent and your over all synopsis of the sword was accurate. I think its just a matter of following the criteria of the guidelines. Like I said, dont worry, Great Job!!

Hehe thx absilits. Well kinda the same here couldn't wait on posting the review first ^^ it was a bit of a "race". I must say I enjoy reviewing stuff like this. I would go ahead and make a kaze review just for the fun of it but I think its pointless to do so since everybody knows about this sword and there are allready plenty of reviews out there^^. I will be getting 2 musashi rosewood shirasaya's soon (if all goes well) so I'll proabably make a more decent review of them. grtz
