Geremy Gulino - Auburn, New York, USA
hello everyone, ide like to invite you all to my second review ;D
this time ill be looking at the CAs hanwei hand and a half sword, i bought at kult of athena for 119$ plus shipping , and had it with in a week
www.kultofathena.com/product~item~SH2365~name~Hand+and+a+Half+Sword.htm
weight my scale says just under 3 pounds
total length 38 inchs
blade length 27 from cross guard 25 and half cutting edge(inchs)
grip is 8 and a half inchs
pommel is just over 2 inchs
POB about 3 to 4 inchs from guard
well i got this sword as a birth day present to myself ;D i have always had a thing for nicely done fantasy sword, even thought most are wall hangers some are made very well i had emailed KOA and asked if these were the new ones made at the hanwei forge , they said yes and so i got one. i have no idea how to tell if it truly is a new one or an old one but either way i got it,,lol,,,
start with scabbard nothin to fancy thought is done very well and blade doesnt raddle in it at all ;D
the grip is done nicely, i believe the seem of the leather is just glued and then melted to form a nice seal
the grip is plenty long enough for two hands tho quit able to be used with one hand
the pommel is very nicely done very smooth , one can tell it was finished on a machine but for 119$ cant complain and it does look very nice
here you should be able to see the peen mark on top of the pommel
the guard is ,, well hard to explain to some one how it looks but it has a nice fantasy but not to out there look to it,
in that pict you can also see the flare at the base of the blade witch attracted me to it in the first place(i may engrave something on this spot)
the blade is straight and sturdy with some flex, kinda whippy for the length but not to bad. you can see machine finishing mark running down the blade but a lil bit of work with steel wool or light abrasive surface makes it nice and clear ;D
the tip is very sharp out of the box , but i had concern if blad ewas sharp enough ,, let find out shall we.
here my cuuting "stand'
lol who say adults cant have fun with swing sets,,lol,,(dont worry no wee ones around )
well first swing ,,,OH MY,,,
lol dented bottle good , broke fishing line,,lol guess it not that sharp out of box.
so i took belt sander to it for a min or ten,,
not bad , and this is side to side swing, not one of my better forms so i went back to sander for a lil bit longer and then went at it with an angled slice
much better ;D and eveything is still nice and tight
i have to say this sword handles like a dream, it is very fast in one hand or two, the weight of it allows you to use one hand very gracefully and the extra grip leaves u prenty of room for the two handed power hit u can really change the corse of youre swing with little to no effort .
historical accuracy N\A
fit and finish 4/5
handling 5/5
structural integrity 5/5
value for money 5/5
overall 4/5
few more viewing goodies ;D
i may end up blueing all the fittings i cant keep steel guard and pommels from forming corrosion i tend to stay with brass fitting but i liked how this looked and was the perfect length handle tho blade could be another 2-4 inches longer and it still be good
maybe even a tad wider too,,lol ;D
thank you all for reading me ;D

well i thought i should show whats under the hood , so to speach with this CAS sword
those two are shots of the tang were it snapped( cutting bamboo) thank fully no one was around and blade only when about 2 feet then into ground.
and it turns out the tang is threaded , not peened they are solid and not hallow
the hilt was ok but cut way to big for the tang it not only slid from side to side when i put it back in , it slid front to back to
with this new info i must change the structural integrity score down to 2/5 as it handles soft targets well enough but nothing to hard for this tang, unless i just got a bad one and even if that is the case , the tang it self is still VERY thin compared to others.
still good if all u plan to cut are pool noodles, and the occasional water bottles .
well atleast i got some cool guard and pommel now and a gripp too trying to look at the bright side, may even make a good dirk or something
