This is gonna be the review of the shobu zukuri katana from sino sword i ordered to my specifications. Yesterday katana came in a cardboard box and then was inside a display box, and then covered in a beautiful sword bag. After taking out the sword, i was surprised on how it looked. I expecting that it was gonna be in a cheaper state but it was in very good looking condition. Katana is fully functional. Blade is made from t10 (tool steel). Nagasa is differential hardened with clay. Blade: measurements as in in the specification i sent them: nagasa:-------73cm motohaba:---35mm kassane -------8mm sori---------- ~2,1cm Hamon is straight, delicate but visible, and i like it. Blade is massive, but yet in hand it is well balanced and feels light and ease "maneuverable". Habaki sticks into blade excellently (fits shape of the blade very closely), way better than my other katanas. I like the sori and the overall geometry of the sword. Katana is sharp. Nakago is profiled into curvature of blade Tsuka: Nice fittings, menuki in proper place, crisscross wrap the way it should be. Wrap is very tight, to see if they used hashi-gami I had to use much force to spread ito. Hashi-gami were used for tsuka maki . Kashira doesn't move at all, you can't move it. If there is something i would wanna change about the tsuka then i would make grooves for same panels, and i would give tsuka core more rounded shape, in this way following more the fuchi. Such a improvement would give the tsuka a more delicate, more harmonized look. Even in the future when i make a tsuka customization i will use original the tsuka core. After taking out the mekugies my happiness resulted in a smile and "ale dobrze zrobione" shout, because nothing moved, and everything was in its perfect place, even i shook katana with force i didn't hear any noise -perfect silence... That's how the fit of the handle in Japanese style katana handle should be. Besides the small details i mention that would make the tsuka look more delicate, i am very happy with the tsuka workmanship. Saya has a very interesting red color, the color represents that i am weak in matching colors... I ordered the samegawa appliance to the saya, it looks really good. There is not rattles in saya- perfect silence... The worst thing that happened is during shipping saya was damaged. Somebody careless hit the box with something heavy which went through all the boxes causing the saya cracked. I contacted with my project manager Mr. Kane. He said that there is no problem, he will send me a new saya. But i chose for it to be black. I am very thankful for the manager that he cares about his customers, and offered to replace the saya himself. I feel treated seriously with respect. Overall i am very satisfied with the sino shobu zukuri katana. For sure, i will have business with them in the future. I wasn't able to cut with the sword because i am too tired (14 days working without break, for 12 hours a day) and also its too cold (brr). Thank you for you attention. Szabla. These are pictures i made: habaki is fitting blade nicely Unfortunate saya cracks: szabla

Haha man, you got a hell of a lot goin on on that shobu. I'm glad to see everything was put together right. Looks like they're taking good care of you over at Sino. Can I ask how you came up with that whole color scheme and options? Is there a look or theme you were going for?

Can I ask how you came up with that whole color scheme and options? Is there a look or theme you were going for? When i was preparing to order katana i looked at tsuba, fuchi- kashire and menuki they offered i find this bamboo motive set matching. I pick different tsuba than on pictures i made. This is tsuba i originally took: (I gonna work a little on this plane tsuba.) I also ordered this golden flowers tsuba. I put on flower tsuba after i dissasembled katana and i liked its look, so i left it on. With color: i waned something different from black and white motive color katana i possessed in this time. Among all colors sino offered i ordered colors i liked. I'm extremely week with naming colors.... My wife is telling i'm color blind...I see colors but i have difficulty with shades of colors. So this is reason for color scheme... Is this ito color sort of green ? szabla

I love the new tsuba you put on it! reminds me of the very delicate Koftgari inlay work that they put in Indian Weaponry. Very interesting. Is that an antique?

I think they do... But I think you have to buy like five at a time or something.

The ito is green... and green ovr black is just about my favorite look for katana... but with that red saya... egads... looks like a christmas sword! Will look much better when you get the black saya replacement I think. Thats a great looking sword aside from the saya... congrats.

I happen to find the color combination very striking. Stands out, grabs attention, pulls one in...makes one bleed. I mean uh...yeah, I think it looks okay.

Hehe, Christmas sword! You may be colorblind; the ito is indeed green. May be worth it to get a check at the optometrist.
Anyway, nice sword. Did Sino ever send you the replacement saya? Updates, man!
+1 from me (quite belatedly x.x).
