Hello, I got this sword (Deepeeka Hersir) from Jussi. He started to customize it and I'm going to finish it. I made a new handle for it. It's made of mountain-ash/rowan. (I've chosen the tree myself from my grandparents farmyard) Handle is wrapped with stainless steel wire. Wire is secured with pins. Wooden pommel part is riveted to steel part and secured with epoxy. It's not finished yet. There is some glue stains and unfinished spots, but I decided to share now so I can get some comments and advice. There is some work to do with the blade too. Here's pics: Thanks

Damn it looks good, I can't believe it's the same sword. I think the partially wooden pommel is a great idea, are you planning to maybe do some carving on it?

Thanks guys, First I was thinking I'd do some carving to the pommel but this turned out pretty nice just like this. Simple is beautiful. I might carve something to it later. But for now it's ready like this. Here's final picture: I made a practise viking shield. It took two to three hours to make it and materials cost 30€. It's made of birch plywood. Center dome is a baking bowl, heh. Shield is covered with cotton canvas. There is sturdy leather band around the shield. I think the sword and the shield make a nice pair!

Wicked cool set and I think it's very cool that the wood for the handle comes from your family property

Very nice work on the viking grip. The wooden lobe idea is pretty unique but works well.

Thanks, Jussi had began reprofiling the blade with an angle grinder. It's a good foundation for finishing the work now. I used mainly files and diamond sharpeners. I also used a power drill with sanding pad. I removed 40 g of steel. There's still work to do. I'm not sure should I remove more material since this sword is still quite heavy, 1,4 kg? POB is 14,5 cm from guard. What do you think?

I recommend grinding until you get rid of the diamond cross section at the tip.
